Hey, I’m Evan.
I’m the only progressive running for delegate in Charles County, because we need one to stand up for us in Annapolis.
Who Am I?
I come from a diverse background.
My father’s mother came to the United States from Fukuoka, Japan after WWII, and married my grandfather soon after. I consider myself sansei, or a member of the third Japanese generation after immigration.
Despite my personal privilege growing up in southern California, I witnessed firsthand discrimination against my dad and grandma for their looks, color, and accent. We have made progress in their lifetimes, but I have seen that still more progress needs to be made in ours.
I’m the only candidate that’s working-class or under 40.
Charles County is increasingly filling with young professionals and talent who need and deserve representation in Annapolis, yet the reality is that young people are sorely lacking for it. Only 4 percent of the Maryland legislature is in the 20-34 age group.
So too are we lacking for working-class politicians. Despite our politicians being part-time and our income increasingly inferior, our choices are limited to politicians paid by the powerful. I aim to tackle these problems head-on.
I’m a dyed-in-the-wool progressive.
My background spans chemical engineering, working for my hometown school district, and democratic socialism, but it’s the last of these which best speak to my intentions in politics.
I am dedicated to improving the lives of average people in Charles County. Whether that means protecting you from ICE, keeping everyday life affordable, or supporting labor unions, I am here to fight for you. When you elect me to Annapolis, I intend for you to notice the difference.
What Will I Do?
Address the Affordability Crisis
In the most literal sense, we cannot afford to wait any longer for action. Childcare, rent, and food are all skyrocketing in cost, yet Annapolis fails to make corporations pay a fairer share. I will fight to bring the cost of living down, and I will fight for laws that protect our working class from being driven out.
Deliver Rapid Transit
Since 1996, Annapolis has commissioned no less than seven studies on the MD-5 corridor for the SMRT, and they’re planning an eighth for this summer. I will finally deliver us the rapid transit system we’ve needed and been emptily promised for 30 years in southern Maryland.
Abolish ICE
I am the only candidate calling for ICE to be abolished. While ICE is a federal agency, the state has significant power to hamper their efforts in bringing violence to Maryland. I will enforce the end of 287(g) agreements, and proudly advocate for the protection of all Marylanders. We only need look to Minneapolis to know that all minorities will be a target here, and I will not wait for that to happen.
